Advantages of Metallographic Cutting Machine
When cutting the samples with a qualified metallographic cutting machine, a smooth surface conducive to fine grinding can be formed.
Usually the cutting speed is fast and the efficiency is high. Of course, the selection of grinding wheel, lubrication, cooling conditions, and the type and hardness of metal to be cut will affect the quality of cutting.
Poor cutting conditions can easily damage the sample and cause changes in the microstructure. Usually, hard grinding wheels are used for cutting soft materials and soft grinding wheels are used for cutting hard materials.
There are many ways to cut metallographic samples, including sawing (band saw or circular saw), wire cutting, water jet cutting, turning or milling, shearing, etc., and any method can be used for sampling as long as it does not change the microstructure of the polished surface.
All cutting operations will cause a certain depth of damage to the material, which should be removed in the subsequent preparation process.
