Why Need Sample Mounting?

Small-sized samples are often encountered during metallographic observation, so the samples are often mounted for easy grinding and polishing. To sum up, the applications of mounting mainly include the following aspects:

Protect the operator: It is convenient to hold thin, brittle, small, and irregular samples, cover sharp edges, and ensure the safety of manual sample preparation;

Provide a unified standard sample size: It is convenient for automated batch sample preparation, and it is convenient for sample storage and management;

Protect the sample: prevent edge chamfering, fill holes, enhance fragile samples, and pre-mount protection before cutting;

Marking: engraving, embedding labels, observation.

Cold mounting VS hot mounting

Metal materials and materials that are not sensitive to pressure and heat, such as metals, ceramics, etc., are suitable for hot mounting; on the contrary, materials that are sensitive to heat and pressure are cold mounted.
